Cairns Regional Council Election 2024
The Cairns Regional Council Election will take place in 2024 and Shane Cuthbert is well placed, as a politically active member of the Cairns community to comment on the many Cairns Divisional candidates and Mayor position up for grabs.
Shane Cuthbert has attended MOST Cairns Regional Council General Meetings, Cairns Regional Council Planning and Environment Meetings and shares various networks with current and aspiring Cairns Councillors.
Current Division Six Councillor Kristy Valelly (The Imperfect Mum) (Team Unity)
Division Six Councillor Kristy Vallelly is a fantastic advocate for the local community and one of the most genuine Councillors. Cairns Councillor Kristy Vallelly was an early supporter alongside Rob Pyne of the Youth Advisory Committee, recommended by the Cairns Young Chamber economic stimulus paper to which, Shane Cuthbert contributed in 2019-2020. Divison 6 Councillor Kristy Vallelly operates the popular 'imperfect mum' online blog and represents the areas of Brinsmead, Crystal Cascades, Kamerunga, Redlynch, Freshwater and Stratford. It is expected first time Councillor Vallelly retain her Division Six seat, as part of the Cairns Unity team.
Shane Trimby (Team Eden)
Shane Trimby is a dedicated community member and family man who has called Brinsmead and Redlynch home for the past thirty years. Throughout his career, Shane Trimby has seen significant success, particularly in the local restaurant industry with establishments like “Pearls On The Pier” and “Fox & Firkin.” Additionally, Shane Trimby has served as the chairperson of the ‘Venue Managers Association,’ focusing on reducing alcohol-related crime and violence in the Cairns CBD, leaving a positive impact on the community.
In the realm of real estate, Shane Trimby serve as the principal and co-owner of a highly successful real estate agency in Redlynch, recognised for providing trusted and reliable advice to those buying and selling homes.
Shane Trimby's goal in running for council is to bring a dynamic shift, believing that a diverse and balanced team is essential in meeting the growing needs of Cairns while maintaining its unique identity. He is driven by a sincere desire to make a positive impact on the city, ensuring its future prosperity by offering Division 6 a councillor who is both accessible and accountable. Dr Nicole Sleeman (Community First)
As a GP, Dr Nicole Sleeman knows that health and well-being starts outside the doctor's room.
She is passionate about creating healthy communities, and believes we can be stronger and more resilient if we design our spaces and plan our initiatives more thoughtfully.
She is running for council because a public health voice is needed to protect and promote health, especially in a changing climate.
If elected, she will work with our community and use her knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to help Council build a healthy, safe, environmentally and economically sustainable city.
Nicole is an active member of Doctors for the Environment Australia where she educates health professionals and the public on the health impacts of climate change and the co-benefits of climate action. She is a board certified Lifestyle Medicine Practitioner and recently completed post-graduate studies in Public and Environmentally Sustainable Health. In her spare time, Nicole loves cycling the bike paths of Division 6, swimming at Stoney Creek, hiking and connecting with community.
