Cairns Regional Council Election 2024
The Cairns Regional Council Election will take place in 2024 and Shane Cuthbert is well placed, as a politically active member of the Cairns community to comment on the many Cairns Divisional candidates and Mayor position up for grabs.
Shane Cuthbert has attended MOST Cairns Regional Council General Meetings, Cairns Regional Council Planning and Environment Meetings and shares various networks with current and aspiring Cairns Councillors.
Division Three Councillor Kathy Zeiger (South Cairns Advocate)Shane Cuthbert first met Cairns Councillor Cathy Zeiger at the Cairns Crime Forum, a local community event held at Cazalys to address the escalating Crime issues affecting Cairns residents in 2020.
Division 3 Councillor Cathy Zeiger represents the areas of White rock and Woree having taken the seat when former Division 3 Councillor Rob Pyne withdrew to run for the State Parliament seat, becoming member for Cairns in 2015 in the first Palaszcuzk Government. It is expected that Cathy Zeiger hold on to her independent seat at the upcoming 2024 Local Government Elections. Cathy Zeiger is one of Cairns more popular candidates.
Division Three Council Candidate Liam Smith (Community First Team)
Cairns born and bred, Liam Smith grew up in Bayview Heights running barefoot through the rainforest. He went to Trinity Anglican School in White Rock, was involved in Bayview Heights scouts for 12 years, and lives at Mt Sheridan.
Liam is a Communications Paraprofessional with Ergon and holds an electrical engineering associate degree. He feels privileged to provide services across the region he loves from Thursday Island to Birdsville.
He has represented his workmates on a range of issues fromamenities in the field to safety investigations & has always been a passionate campaigner for workers’ rights.
Liam's fiancé is a small business owner and nurse - "the light of my life" - and through her he has come to understand the struggles and successes of small business in Cairns.Liam is thankful to the Cairns community for the opportunities that have been afforded him and would like the chance to preserve and build upon the lifestyle that Cairns has to offer.As a keen mountain biker, he is particularly excited to see Cairns become a premier destination for the sport.

Division Three Council Candidate Heidi Healy (Team Unity)
Heidi Healy, is a Cairns local and the youngest member of the Cairns Unity Team.
Heidi Healy comes from Torres Strait Islander and South Sea Islander heritage from her maternal family. Combined with the business and political leadership experience on her dad's side (Mick Trout) supports a diverse skill set and strong work ethic.
At the age of 19, Heidi started her first business, a family daycare centre. After two years she moved on to serve in both Assistant Director and Director roles during the pandemic as well as opening La Belle Lash and beauty in 2019.
In 2021, Heidi introduced Cairns Beauty Bar—a groundbreaking initiative that unites women business owners in a shared beauty space.
Despite the demands of motherhood and running two thriving businesses, she remains committed to community engagement, actively empowering young entrepreneurs and volunteering at local events, such as the Great Pyramid Race, Eco festival, School and sporting canteens, while also providing free beauty services at the annual Emergency Services Ball.
Her career highlights include being named Cairns Show Rural Ambassador in 2023, Cairns Post Top 30 Entrepreneurs, Guest Speaker for Cairns Finest Young Leaders, and recognised as a finalist in several categories at the Cairns Business Excellence Awards, including Emerging Leadership Excellence Award in 2022, People Management Excellence Award in 2021, and Customer Service – Trade, Retail & Services in 2021.
