What it is:A mood disorder causing persistent sadness, low energy, loss of interest, and difficulty functioning.
Symptoms:• Persistent sadness or emptiness• Loss of interest in hobbies or socialising• Fatigue or low energy• Changes in sleep or appetite• Feelings of worthlessness or guilt• Difficulty concentrating
Causes:• Genetics, brain chemistry, trauma, life stressors
Treatment:• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)• Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)• Medication (antidepressants) prescribed by a psychiatrist• Lifestyle interventions (exercise, sleep hygiene, social connection)
