Frequently asked questions
If i do a 'once off' session and later decide to purchase a package can the price of the first session be deducted from the package total cost?
Yes, this is fine. It’s normal to be uncertain about a therapist before you meet with them as it’s hard to know what they’re ‘all about’. The difference with Stuart however is that he has provided many hours of free online session video content for you to get a good feel for what he’s all about. If you have not yet viewed the online session, we suggest you click here to get started. Then make a decision about packages after this.
Can i claim the cost of the session through Medicare or my private health insurance?
Medicare - no. Your insurance - maybe, depending on your level of coverage. It’s best to check with your insurer first to see if your insurance covers treatments such as counselling and psychotherapy.
What is your location?
If you’d like do meet in person for face-to-face sessions, the office is located in Cairns at 102 Hartley Street, Portsmith QLD. If this location is not convenient for you, then we recommend you try the Zoom, Skype or Facetime sessions.
What do i need to know about Skype, Zoom and Facetime sessions?
If you want to see Shane in person to do face to face session, the head office is located here in Cairns. But if you don't live local, that's okay. You still have the option to do Zoom, Facetime or Skype sessions. And even if you do live local, you may find it more convenient to do Zoom, Facetime and Skype sessions anyway. It'll save you the hassle of traveling and finding parking and all the rest.
Personally, I prefer an application called Zoom. I find it to be a bit more reliable than Skype, but ultimately you can use whatever video conferencing software you feel most comfortable using. So, irrespective of your location, the obvious pros about using video conferencing software like Skype or Zoom is that it's a lot more convenient. You can do the session from wherever you feel comfortable doing it, on the beach, in the garden, the home or even at the office.
But what about the cons? Well, there's three things that you need to know if you decide that you want to go ahead and do video conferencing sessions. The first is, you want to make sure that you're in a location that's quiet, free from distraction and most importantly, that has good internet connectivity. Video conferencing software like Zoom and Skype obviously uses a lot of data. You don't want to run out of data and you don't want to be in an area where you've got slow, or limited internet obviously.
The second thing to remember is, you're going to find it a lot more effective to wear headphones during the session. That way, you're not going to be distracted by surrounding sounds and that way you can also be a lot more focused.
The third thing is to be prepared and know what to do in case we do lose internet connectivity in the middle of a session. A lot of people express concern, "What happens if we're doing a session and suddenly we lose internet? Am I still going to be billed for the session?" The simplest answer is, yes. you will be billed for the session but, there are a few back up plans for this type of situation.
It may take some time reconnecting or resetting the internet. For that reason, it's a good idea to have a phone handy that we can call you on, just in case the internet does cut out. That way, worst case scenario, we can just continue the session over the phone. We don't really need to see each other infact, some people actually prefer phone calls anyway, it may help you feel more comfortable not having to worry about how you look or whether the background is tidy. You can instead focus more on the session.
So, that's the worst case scenario if the internet cuts out. You just need to be prepared and know what's going to happen so you don't freak out. We alwaysn have a plan in place and you will recieve some information in regards to this via text or email prior to the session to make sure we have a good time together. So, irrespective of your location, if you decide it's going to be more convenient for you to do a video conferencing session like Zoom or Skype, then just tick the appropriate box when you fill out the contact form, or just let us know that you prefer to do video conferencing when you call the office to make a booking.
